Dust Storms Trigger Multiple Highway Accidents in Morocco as Holiday Traffic Surges

Three accidents occurred on Sunday, October 22 on the Benguerir-Chichaoua highway due to the bad weather that hit Morocco.
Gusts of wind with dust storms combined during the day on Sunday, marking the return of the school holidays synonymous with increased traffic. These weather conditions caused three accidents on the Benguerir-Chichaoua highway. In a statement, the National Motorway Company of Morocco (ADM) says it has organized itself in "full vigilance mode" characterized by the reinforcement and mobilization of the teams of patrollers, maintenance teams and towing teams to monitor the network and intervene as quickly as possible. The control rooms were also mobilized. The company also deployed a communication system through variable message boards on the motorway network, on the company’s social networks, on the ADM Trafic application and with all the media.
In addition to the three accidents, the bad weather also caused other material damage on the highway, including the detachment of signage panels and lighting poles and the cutting of electrical cables, ADM specifies, stating that the ADM teams and those of the Royal Gendarmerie and Civil Protection intervened to assist users and secure the perimeter. Two diversions were also carried out: one towards the Targa toll station for users coming from the Agadir direction, and the other towards the Benguerir station for users coming from the Casablanca direction, as well as the closure of the highway entrances on the Palmeraie and Targa station
