Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s Moroccan Charity Launches Rural Development Project in Marrakech

Defying the health crisis, the MekkiL’ association has officially launched its pilot project "douars en vie" in Marrakech, in the presence of its president Dominique Strauss-Kahn. Douar Seraghna is the first beneficiary of the pilot project, which will then be extended to other douars with the support of the Dacathlon Foundation.
Planned over 5 years, "Douars en vie" has the main objective of working to reduce social and territorial inequalities and to support the most vulnerable populations, and is based on education, health and personal fulfillment, through sport while respecting the environment. More interested in the protection of mothers and children as well as youth, the association has proceeded to open the preschool center Fath, for which it assumes the remuneration of the two teachers and the renovation of the building. Thanks to its actions, the number of children has reached 48 compared to about twenty previously, reports Atlasinfo.
In addition, the center of the local association Fath, which now has two classrooms with two grade levels, has been renovated and equipped with school supplies, textbooks and educational games. In collaboration with the French NGO Biblonef, a library has also been installed with textbooks suitable for preschools and primary schools, thus welcoming the children, the young people of Douar Seraghna and the neighboring douars.
In addition to these works, Dominique Strauss-Kahn proceeded with the authorities and partner companies, to distribute Decathlon bicycles to 50 middle and high school students from Douar Seraghna, in order to facilitate their access to their schools, located 8-13 km from their homes. "You must study first for yourselves, but also for your family and for the entire Kingdom," he stressed in a brief speech, before adding that "this pilot project is then intended to be replicated in other douars".
