Domestic Violence Concerns Surge as Global Lockdowns Trap Abuse Victims at Home

The lockdown period observed worldwide for preventive purposes creates double stress for women victims of domestic violence. This is why the Alternative Movement for Individual Freedoms (M.A.L.I.) issued an alert on domestic violence against women during this mandatory lockdown period in Morocco on Thursday, March 26.
3 billion people are confined in the world to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Among them are battered women whose probability of suffering even more remains very high. Being forced to remain confined is a disaster, according to M.A.L.I. supported by several human rights and women’s aid associations around the world. According to these associations, "confinement increases the risks of acting out."
The M.A.L.I. collective thus calls on civil society to "network in order to help women victims of violence during this pandemic." This involves "strengthening existing mechanisms, implementing an association continuity plan with the maintenance of their services."
