Disappearances of children in Morocco: Growing anguish after the tragedy of little Soundous

A supposed wave of child disappearances, including that of little Soundous in Chefchaouen, is causing great emotion in Morocco. Faced with the anguish of families, experts are calling for a collective and permanent mobilization to guarantee the safety of the youngest.

The case of little Soundous, 18 months old, missing since February 25 in Chefchaouen, adds to the recent tragedies of Hiba and a newborn in Zagora. These events have triggered a massive mobilization involving authorities and volunteers in a wave of national solidarity, while Soundous remains untraceable.

Concern is growing in Moroccan households, prompting parents to radically change their daily habits. Many now refuse to leave their children unattended, even in familiar places. "As soon as we hear about a missing child, we become more attentive to every detail," confides a mother to the newspaper Le Matin.

Faced with this series of tragedies, Mohamed Ennahili, president of the Organization Alternatives for Childhood and Youth, advocates a global approach. According to him, protection should not be just a punctual security reaction, but should be based on a real culture of prevention disseminated within families and schools.

The organization emphasizes the importance of better coordination between stakeholders and increased vigilance in the face of new digital risks. For the expert, investment in the future of the country begins with the security of childhood, which is a permanent collective responsibility and an indicator of the solidity of institutions.
