EU Diplomat: Morocco-Algeria Dialogue May Resume Soon, Says Macron

For the first time in four years, there is a real willingness on the part of King Mohammed VI and Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboune to break the state of inertia that characterized the Bouteflika era. This is how the European Union Ambassador to Algeria, John O’Rourke, expressed himself before a senior official at the Élysée.
The reopening of the dialogue between Rabat and Algiers could take shape in the very near future, the diplomat points out, whose statements were relayed by the newspaper Al Ousboue. Since his appointment in 2016, the man has expressed confidence in the resumption of relations between the two countries.
Far from being a personal point of view, let alone a speculation, the media points out, the news is, to quote John O’Rourke, the "personal conclusion of President Macron".
To recall, the former Algerian president, Bouteflika, had sworn never again to extend his hand to the Moroccan Sovereign, following a diplomatic incident provoked by the former minister, Mohamed Benaissa. The latter had refused to respond to the calls of Jacques Chirac, whose mediation had made it possible to find an agreement on the Moroccan Sahara.
