Diabetes Affects 10.6% of Adult Moroccans, Health Ministry Reports

The number of Moroccans aged over 18 with diabetes has reached nearly 3 million people, or 10.6% of the population, according to a national survey on risk factors, Stepwise 2018, cited by the Ministry of Health.
The supervisory ministry has taken the measure of the situation by prioritizing more prevention efforts and diabetes control in both the 2025 health plan and the 2019-2029 national strategy for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, according to the press release from the ministry published on the occasion of World Diabetes Day, celebrated this year under the theme "The Family and Diabetes".
To this end, to protect against this disease, the Ministry of Health has invited the population to adopt a healthy lifestyle. It has also called on vulnerable people to pay particular attention to this disease through early detection of diabetes.
It should be noted that chronic and silent diabetes is one of the most serious health emergencies in the world and is among the ten leading causes of death, remaining the main cause of blindness, chronic kidney failure and lower limb amputation.
