New developments for taxis in Morocco

The taxi sector is about to undergo a major transformation. In a response to deputy Rachid Hammouni, Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit announced that proposals are underway to modernize the system. This reform aims to address the persistent challenges of this mode of transport.

To succeed in this transformation, an in-depth strategic study has been launched. It examines the legal framework, the organization and the management of the sector. The approach is primarily collective. An initial diagnostic phase has just been completed, after several cycles of discussions with the administrations and professional organizations. This ongoing dialogue is at the heart of the government’s strategy to identify organizational bottlenecks.

The floor has also been given to everyday actors. Field surveys have been conducted with a wide sample of Moroccan drivers and users. Their testimonies will be used to set the priorities of the reform, particularly regarding the quality of service and the social conditions of professionals.
