Desperate Mother's Acid Heist Thwarted in Moroccan Money Agency

In financial difficulty, a 40-year-old woman, dressed in a niqab and armed with a bottle of acid, tried to rob a money transfer agency in Mohammedia. The police services in the region managed to foil her plan.

The incident took place in an agency located in the Hay Saâda neighborhood, in the Derb Marrakech sector. This woman, married to a driver and mother of two children, dressed in a niqab to hide her identity and went to a money transfer agency to attempt a robbery, reports Assabah.

According to the initial findings of the investigation, the mother of the family residing in Mohammedia had devised what she thought was a foolproof plan. After monitoring the agency, she took advantage of the absence of customers and the security guard to enter, armed with a bottle of acid, and threaten the cashier who was alone. The forty-year-old woman would have asked the cashier to give her the contents of the cash register, threatening to pour the bottle of acid on her. But the employee started to scream, which attracted the attention of the neighborhood and passers-by. Disconcerted, the robber fled.

The person involved has no criminal record. She would have acted out of despair due to financial difficulties. According to sources close to the case, she would have wanted to "repay a loan" that weighed on her. Pursued by young people from the neighborhood, the mother of the family was arrested by patrolling police officers, then placed in custody. She was subjected to a thorough interrogation to determine if she had acted alone or with accomplices. Her file was forwarded to the competent prosecutor’s office.
