Denmark Selects US Anthem Missile Two Months After Morocco Test

In Copenhagen on October 22, Defense Minister Jeppe Bruus announced two new military purchases. The first is a Norwegian missile for F-35 fighter jets. The second is American: the Anthem, developed by Covenant, which was fired in August in southern Morocco.

The Danish Ministry of Defence confirmed the choice to give its military the means to strike long distances from the ground. The Norwegian Joint Strike Missile, meanwhile, will be carried by aircraft. The announcement marks an acquisition decision, ahead of future deliveries.

From August 3 to 7, in Tan-Tan, the Royal Armed Forces and US military personnel prepared a temporary test site for Covenant engineers. A live firing made it possible to assess communications and the launch system, and to collect weather and targeting data, according to AFRICOM.

The demonstration was part of the AMTEC project, a training and experimentation center that Rabat and Washington want to develop in the region. Morocco is also among the five sites selected by the US military to test new military technologies, alongside four sites in the United States.

The Anthem is designed for mass production at a lower cost than conventional cruise missiles. The manufacturer aims to offer armed forces long-range precision-strike capabilities. The specialist outlet The War Zone has chronicled the missile’s tests, including the one conducted in Morocco.

To meet European demand, Covenant is also preparing a production line in Germany, The War Zone reports. Deliveries to the US military, meanwhile, are expected in 2027. Between the test in Morocco and Denmark’s decision, the Anthem has taken another step toward commercialization.
