Death of Hamidou Laanigri, a pillar of the Moroccan army

Hamidou Laanigri, a corps general, died this Sunday, September 10 in Rabat, at the age of 84.
Originally from the Meknes area and born in 1939, Laanigri had started his career in 1956, in the aftermath of Morocco’s independence.
In 1977, then holding the rank of colonel, he took the reins of the military unit sent to Zaire to pacify the region. Then, in 1979, he flew to the United Arab Emirates as a security instructor. He finally returned to Morocco in 1989.
Laanigri was propelled to the head of the Territorial Surveillance Directorate (DST) in 1999 by King Mohammed VI. Six years later, he became Inspector General of the Auxiliary Forces.
