Deadly Week on Moroccan Roads: 17 Killed, Nearly 2,000 Injured in Traffic Accidents

The Moroccan road continues to kill as shown once again by the figures just released by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
During the week from April 15 to 21, 17 people were killed and 1,933 others were injured, including 73 seriously, in 1,398 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas, according to a statement.
The DGSN blames the inattention of pedestrians and drivers, non-compliance with traffic lights and stop signs, lack of vehicle control, non-compliance with priority, speeding, driving in the left lane and in the wrong direction, driving under the influence of alcohol, unauthorized lane changes and defective overtaking.
As for the offenses, the police issued 32,966 tickets and drew up 10,423 reports that were submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, while 22,543 transaction fines were paid.
During the same period, the police collected 5,053,550 dirhams, impounded 4,133 vehicles and seized 6,125 documents. It also withdrew 165 vehicles from circulation.
