Deadly Week on Moroccan Roads: 12 Killed, 2,000 Injured in Urban Traffic Accidents

Twelve people were killed and 2,003 others were injured, including 80 seriously, in 1,511 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas during the week of October 14 to 20. These figures, published by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), provide information on the recklessness of road users.
These accidents, according to MAP, are due to driver inattention, failure to yield the right-of-way, speeding, pedestrian inattention, failure to maintain a safe distance, changing direction without using a signal, loss of control, unauthorized lane change, failure to stop, failure to obey traffic signals, driving under the influence, driving in the left lane, driving in the wrong direction and improper passing, in short, failure to comply with the Highway Code.
And, with regard to control operations and the repression of offenses, the security services recorded 52,359 tickets and drew up 15,099 reports that were submitted to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, while 37,260 transactional fines were collected for an amount of 7,466,975 dirhams, according to the same source.
According to the General Directorate of National Security, its services recorded the impounding of 5,609 vehicles, the seizure of 9,091 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 399 vehicles.
