Deadly Scorpion Stings Surge in Morocco Amid Heatwave, Antidote Shortage

Faced with a resurgence of deadly scorpion stings in this period of heat wave, great concern has gripped several Moroccan cities.
Several children have lost their lives following scorpion and snake bites, fueling the fear of the population about the lack of antidote in local health centers and hospitals. Among the victims, a 6-year-old girl from Azilal, who succumbed despite her transfer to the regional hospital of Beni Mellal due to lack of antidote, reports Assabah.
The situation has become worrying with the increase in the number of bites, particularly among the youngest. In Fkih Ben Salah, a little girl lost her life while playing near her home, while a baby died in Tata.
The local population is trying to understand why hospitals located in regions conducive to the proliferation of these venomous insects and reptiles are not sufficiently stocked with antidotes. Some cite unequal treatment of cases, citing the example of a foreign tourist stung by a scorpion near Marrakech who received the necessary care very quickly in a university hospital in the city.
