Deadly Scorpion Stings Kill Two Children in Morocco, Sparking Outrage Over Healthcare

A 9-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl died in the province of Guelmim after being victims of scorpion stings.
The two victims, who reside in the province of Guelmim, were first taken to the regional hospital for care, before being taken to the Hassan II hospital in Agadir where they finally passed away.
These tragic deaths have sparked a wave of outrage among the inhabitants of the region. Some believe that the two minors died due to the lack of serums and necessary resources at the regional hospital of Guelmim, which necessitated their transfer to the hospital in Agadir. They call on the competent authorities to improve the healthcare offer of the Guelmim hospital in order to ensure the care of critical cases.
Contacted by Hespress, an official from the regional hospital of Guelmim declined any responsibility of the establishment. "The first case, concerning a child, arrived at the Guelmim hospital at 9 pm on August 19, in a very critical condition due to three scorpion stings on the face, hand and ear. He was subjected to the current treatment protocol; however, the deterioration of his health condition required his transfer to the Hassan II hospital in Agadir, which has level 3 services," he explained.
The second case is that of a little girl stung by a scorpion on August 20 at 7 pm. Transferred to the Bouizakarne hospital at 10 pm, she was redirected to the regional hospital of Guelmim where she arrived at 2 am, added the official, assuring that the medical team followed the treatment protocol and carried out the necessary analyzes, which revealed that the victim was suffering from kidney and heart failure, leading to her transfer to the Agadir hospital.
