Deadly Highway Stone-Throwing Incident Claims Woman’s Life in Morocco

New drama on Moroccan highways where a woman, victim of stone throwing while driving her car, died Friday on the highway connecting Fez and Oujda.
The details are reported by the Kifach site, which states that a young woman living in Fez and working in a call center in the spiritual capital was the victim of stone throwing. However, it is unclear whether the victim was hit by the thrown stones or she tried to avoid the stones thrown at her car.
Unfortunately, cases of stone throwing are quite frequent in Morocco where there are many victims. A few months ago, the pasha of Sidi Bernoussi, in Casablanca, was a victim of it on the highway, causing his death. This was also the case two years ago for the former Minister of the Interior Mohamed Laensar who was the victim of stone throwing while driving with his driver on the Tangier highway. He was injured and taken to the hospital, while his vehicle was damaged.
Despite the severity of Moroccan courts, such as the death sentence for the perpetrators of stone throwing that caused the death of a family nearly 3 years ago (the parents and a little girl), such acts continue.
To try to put an end to the carnage, the Moroccan Motorways Company announced last year the installation of surveillance cameras in sensitive areas such as bridges. Nets had also been considered by the authorities but no date has been given for their implementation.
