Deadly Heatwave in Morocco Claims 21 Lives as Temperatures Soar to 50°C

The heatwave currently affecting Morocco has already caused the death of at least 21 people, mainly individuals weakened by age or chronic illnesses, according to the latest data provided by the authorities.
The Béni Mellal-Khénifra region, in particular, has been severely affected by these extreme temperatures, with peaks of up to 50°C. The regional health department indicated that most of the deaths were recorded in healthcare facilities.
Faced with this emergency situation, the Ministry of Health says it has mobilized all its medical teams to provide the necessary care to the most vulnerable populations. An official press release has been published, calling on everyone to be extra vigilant in the face of this intense heat.
The government strongly recommends that Moroccans take all necessary precautions to protect themselves from the heat, in particular by avoiding exposure during the hottest hours of the day, by drinking regularly and by wearing light clothing. Children, pregnant women, the elderly and chronically ill people are particularly encouraged to follow these recommendations.
