Daughter of French Retiree Killed in Morocco Praises Government Response

Stella, the daughter of Christiane F., the 79-year-old French retiree killed in a market in the town of Tiznit near Agadir on January 15, expresses her gratitude to the Moroccan government, which "has done everything to come to the aid" of her family.

"My mother used to go alone to a newsstand five minutes’ walk from the campsite near the town market. That’s where she crossed paths with this unbalanced person," Stella, the victim’s daughter, explains to the newspaper Le Parisien. The deceased’s husband was at the municipal campsite at the time of the events. Saddened by the news of his wife’s murder, he should return to France this Friday.

The two retirees were lovers of Tiznit, which had become a meeting point for their group of retired friends who leave France to join this Moroccan city in a motorhome. "It’s a city they knew well. They walked around there with complete confidence," adds Stella, who assures that her mother never had any problems in the city, "until the day she met this possessed person who killed her." "My mother easily made friends with everyone. She easily started a conversation. My parents had thus made friends with the Wali of the region," she continues.

Stella also thanked the Moroccan government for helping her family. "We have no grievances against the Moroccan state or the Moroccans. [...] Morocco has done everything to help us," she says, believing that "we cannot condemn a people for a lunatic".
