Dacia Considers Shifting Sandero Production to Romania for Electric Model

Dacia, the low-cost brand of the Renault group, is considering manufacturing an electric (zero-emission) version for the next generation of its Sandero, and could repatriate production from Morocco to Romania, in order to benefit from the ecological bonus, which can go up to 4,000 euros granted exclusively to electric vehicles produced in Europe.

Last year, the Dacia Sandero experienced huge success in Europe. With 309,392 cars sold in 2024, an increase of +14.5% compared to 2023, it remains the sales champion in Europe, ahead of the Tesla Model Y. This success comforts the Renault group, which is revising its ambitions upwards. It plans to produce an electric Sandero. Information confirmed by Denis Le Vot, CEO of the brand. The Sandero will become the 2nd 100% electric model in Dacia’s range, after the Spring.

The characteristics of this car have not yet been revealed. "This electric Sandero borrows the architecture (AmpR Small platform) of the entry-level version of the R5, which is equipped with a small 40 kWh battery (300 km range) and a 95 horsepower engine (also present on the upcoming Renault 4)," Capital believes it knows. According to the explanations of Denis Le Vot, the model will have a thermal engine, and this, for a lifetime that will take it until 2035, the year when automobile manufacturers will no longer be able to sell new combustion vehicles in Europe.

Will the electric Sandero benefit from the ecological bonus, which can go up to 4,000 euros granted exclusively to cars produced in Europe? Benefiting from this government purchase aid would imply that Sandero production be repatriated from Morocco to Romania for example, or to other European countries. The Sandero will become the 2nd 100% electric model in Dacia’s range.
