Dacia Considers Moving Spring EV Production to Morocco or Romania Amid French Policy Shift

Following the announcement by French President Emmanuel Macron of the reform of the ecological bonus for electric cars that will favor the European automotive industry, the Dacia brand is considering relocating the Spring, produced in China, to Romania or Morocco.
The Dacia Spring is a hit on the French market and crushes the competition, including Tesla. Already 110,000 orders since its launch in the fall of 2021. "Dacia has benefited from the upgrading of the competition. The brand was already in a monopoly position in the low-end segment, the industry has opened an even wider highway for it, amuses Bernard Jullien, lecturer at the University of Bordeaux and a connoisseur of the company, in L’Express. Even by raising its prices, Dacia remains well below its rivals. It thus accumulates high sales volumes and impressive profitability."
But the reform of the ecological bonus aimed at "taking into account the carbon footprint of the vehicle" in order to "support batteries and vehicles produced in Europe" could have a negative impact on the sales of the battery-powered Spring. "If the context changes, we will try to find the appropriate answers," responds Lionel Jaillet, head of the range. The brand does not rule out relocating the Spring to Romania or Morocco.
