COVID-19 Surge in Tangier Prompts Emergency Hospital Expansion

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized continues to rise in Tangier, according to figures published by the health authorities. Local authorities have decided to tighten the screws.
The construction of new intensive care pavilions as well as the development of a field hospital are planned to avoid the collapse of the health system in the region, reports the daily Al Massae, according to which it has been decided to strengthen the bed capacity of the intensive care services in all hospitals.
In detail, the public authorities have decided on an emergency plan that will allow the creation of three hospital centers dedicated specifically to Covid-19 patients and the construction of a field hospital with a capacity of 100 beds while organizing a system of monitoring and orientation of patients.
To this end, the Duc de Tovar and Mohammed VI hospitals will be used to accommodate serious cases infected with the coronavirus and those requiring artificial respirators. In addition, the arrangement and equipment of a 100-bed field hospital in an area adjacent to the Mohammed VI hospital.
Furthermore, the authorities have studied with the regional health officials the possibility of freeing up the El Qortobi hospital in order to reserve it exclusively for serious cases affected by Covid-19.
