COVID-19 Surge Among Moroccan Healthcare Workers Alarms Nursing Union

Health professionals are in danger in the fight against the coronavirus. They have counted 825 members in their ranks since the start of the Covid-19 epidemic, according to the movement of nurses and health technicians in Morocco (MITSM).
The infection statistics of the last two weeks are frightening. According to Alyoum24, the MITSM counted 200 cases of Covid-19 infection in its ranks with dozens of nurses and health technicians in quarantine.
Faced with these alarming figures, the MITSM denounces "the policy of indifference of the government and the Ministry of Health" towards health professionals. Worse, it refuses to publish statistics on the number of infections among nurses and technicians.
For the leaders of the movement, these contaminations concern as much nurses as midwives and other health personnel in the different cities.
They therefore demand compensation through the increase in their bonuses, currently set at 1400 DH, unlike doctors whose bonuses range from 2800 to 5600 dirhams. They also call on the ministry to recruit unemployed nurses to make up for the shortage of medical staff.
