COVID-19 in Schools: New Guidelines Set for Classroom Closures and Student Testing

The government has just defined very strict criteria to be respected in order to avoid the closure of a school establishment. These closures have already affected several establishments throughout the Kingdom.
During this new school year, which is particularly marked by the health crisis due to the coronavirus, school officials are invited to enforce preventive measures within their establishment.
According to a circular from the Minister of Health to the regional directors, the closure of a classroom for one week is pronounced in the event of contamination of three students. No PCR test is required for the classmates of the students who tested positive, and for the other students in the school, specifies the same document.
When infected students are found in three classrooms, the school establishment is automatically closed for one week. For these cases as well, the students of the classes concerned as well as the entire staff and personnel of the school will not be tested.
For Minister Aït Taleb, the presence of pupils and students within educational establishments represents not only a risk for the family but also for the population.
