COVID-19 Reshapes Moroccan Social Priorities: Family Takes Center Stage

78% of Moroccans admit to having changed their social life due to the coronavirus pandemic. For them, in this context of health crisis, the family is reassuring. Another statistic, several people surveyed acknowledged at more than 27% that they had experienced the distress caused by Covid-19, having been in direct contact with a contaminated person or deceased from this virus. The relayed study also shows that 57.9% say that their relationships with their entourage have improved. Meanwhile, 7.3% have the opposite view, against 34.8% who have no opinion, according to the site tanmia.ma.
In addition, the same study also revealed that Moroccans were marked by the fate of school and professional spaces during the confinement period. For others, it was the mosques, then the leisure and sports spaces that caught their attention. Another category most regretted the impossibility of certain social activities such as visiting parents, travel and movement. Furthermore, the study also showed that household incomes in Morocco during confinement came from work for 54.1% of people, from savings for 11.9%. State support only concerned 6.14%.
This survey was conducted between May 12 and June 4, on a sample of 2,392 people. It is entitled: "Moroccans and Covid-19... Representation, attitudes and practices". It is an initiative of "Menassat" whose website is (www.menassat.org). "Menassat" is a non-profit Casablanca-based platform for research in social and human sciences.
