COVID-19 Forces Blinken to Skip Anti-ISIS Coalition Meeting in Morocco

As planned, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is absent from the coalition meeting on Daesh being held this Wednesday in Marrakech. Tested positive for Covid-19, he is represented by the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland.
Nuland is participating in this meeting "on behalf of Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken," who has been working virtually since last week, according to a statement. The US delegation also includes the Acting Deputy Secretary, in charge of Near East Affairs, Yael Lempert.
Co-organized by Morocco and the United States, this international conclave is attended by more than 80 countries and international organizations and aims to examine the challenges posed by terrorism in all its forms and the repositioning of Daesh in Africa.
The Marrakech coalition meeting once again confirms Morocco’s key role in the fight against terrorism and extremism worldwide, and its leadership in this field. It aims at regional security and stability and thus to fight the sources of terrorism and extremism on the continent.
