Court Rules Tiznit Murder Suspect Mentally Unfit for Trial, Ordered to Psychiatric Care

The murderer of the French national in Tiznit will not be tried in court, as the Rabat Court of Appeal has confirmed his criminal irresponsibility. A thorough examination of his health has revealed that he suffers from mental disorders.
The Court of Appeal thus approves the judgment handed down at first instance. Last August, the criminal chamber of the Rabat court had ordered the internment of the accused in a psychiatric hospital, reports Al Akhbar.
According to the new verdict, the medical examinations carried out by specialists have shown that the accused suffered from serious mental disorders that impaired his discernment at the time of the commission of the crime.
The facts date back to January 15th. The 79-year-old victim had been killed in a market in Tiznit with a bladed weapon. She was residing in a campsite near this small town in the south. The accused, a 31-year-old Moroccan, was identified and brought before the Attorney General at the Rabat Court of Appeal. After hearing and examination, he will be interned in the Errazi psychiatric hospital.
