Corruption Probe Widens: Lawyers Questioned in Moroccan Judge Case

New suspects, including lawyers, have been questioned by investigators from the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) as part of the case of the Tetouan judge, accused of corruption by his wife.
In coordination with the public prosecutor’s office and the Supreme Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), the BNPJ is continuing its investigation into the case of the Tetouan judge, suspected of corruption. Over the past two weeks, the investigators have questioned lawyers from the Bar Associations of Tetouan, Tangier and Casablanca, reports the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
These would have played the role of intermediary in cases revealed by the audio recordings provided by the judge’s wife. The investigations carried out by the BNPJ elements have also revealed dysfunctions that have led them to broaden the circle of suspects, specifies the same source, stressing that human rights associations and lawyers had denounced similar cases and called for investigations to be opened.
In the four audio recordings provided to the public prosecutor’s office by the second wife of the judge suspected of corruption, the latter would have declared having received bribes in certain cases tried in first instance. The judge even mentioned the names of several people who had played the role of intermediary in some of these cases.
