Coronavirus Panic Leads to Butane Gas Shortage in Casablanca

This Friday, March 20, Casablancans were bustling in the city’s shops before the effective implementation of the strengthened health system, scheduled from 6 p.m. This major rush has led to a shortage of butane gas cylinders.
The Coronavirus psychosis has led to impulsive purchases by the majority of Moroccans, who preferred to ignore the instructions of the government and clear the store shelves, thus depriving the less fortunate of basic necessities.
The latter have had to bear the brunt of it, and had to rush to the neighborhood shops in Casablanca to get butane gas cylinders. This deplorable behavior, which often results in a doubling of purchases, denotes a real lack of social solidarity.
Yet, last Friday, Aziz Rebbah had reassured Moroccans about the supply of the national butane gas market, stating that the current stocks "should guarantee an average reserve stock of 22 days for the months of March, April and May, i.e. levels above the needs of consumers".
