Copper Thieves Target Utilities in Upscale Rabat Neighborhoods, Causing Outages

The police are actively searching for a gang specialized in the theft of copper cables and metal pipes from the installations of water and electricity distribution companies in the upscale neighborhoods of Rabat, causing inconvenience to the population.
Water, electricity and Internet outages have been recorded in luxury villas in the residential neighborhoods of Rabat, reports Assabah. They are the result of thefts of copper cables and water pipes orchestrated by a gang on the installations of the water and electricity distribution company and a telecommunications company.
According to the daily, the police are still looking for the members of this gang who continue to vandalize the installations, much to the dismay of the populations who also suffer from water and electricity cuts.
The head of the judicial police of the prefecture of police of Rabat, who has taken over the case, ordered the establishment of brigades in the targeted neighborhoods and the surrounding areas. Without success. So far, no trace of the criminals who also operate in Salé, Skhirat, Temara, Ain Aouda and Sidi Allal El Bahraoui.
To get their hands on them, it is planned to request the assistance of the intelligence services to strengthen the judicial police, the same source specifies, recalling that a group of individuals had already been arrested by the Royal Gendarmerie in Harhoura, in possession of large quantities of copper cables that they were transporting to Casablanca. They were brought before the public prosecutor and presented to justice.
