Controversy Erupts as Transgender Performance at Paris Olympics Divides Moroccan Christians

Moroccan Christians are divided over the appearance of transgender people simulating the Last Supper at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics on Friday. While the Union of Moroccan Christians strongly supports this initiative, the Coordination of Moroccan Christians rejects it categorically.
These appearances of transgender people at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics have sparked a wave of comments from Christians on social media. Opinions are divided: some have applauded this performance by transgender people, hoping for their presence at the 2030 World Cup in Morocco, while others have strongly disapproved of it.
The subject has sparked a lively controversy on X. Christian internet users have described the appearance of transgender people as an "insult," even calling for a "boycott of the Paris Olympics." For his part, Adam Rbati, president of the Union of Moroccan Christians, strongly supports this demonstration by transgender people. "We defend individual freedoms and freedom of belief, and we support transgender people who express their opinions during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics," he told Hespress.
"The anger that appears concerns certain extremist Christians who reject the manifestations of openness and acceptance of individual freedoms," he added, explaining that "most Moroccan Christians are modernist and support individual freedoms." Adam Rbati also expressed the wish to "see such scenes in Morocco and during the opening ceremony of the 2030 World Cup."
For his part, Mustafa Soussi, secretary general of the Coordination of Moroccan Christians, expressed reservations on the subject, stressing that his association "does not interfere in individual freedoms, and its position is to let these people express themselves as they wish." He added: "The members of the coordination, on a personal basis, reject these demonstrations that embody Christ through transgender people, but the clear position of the coordination as an association is that it is neither for nor against these people."
