Controversy Erupts Over Segregated ’Respectable’ Beach in Morocco’s Saidia Resort

"Respectable beach". These words are at the entrance of a beach near Saidia, in northeastern Morocco.
In Saïdia, the beach along the road between Halk and Saïdia has been reserved exclusively "for bearded men and veiled women", which indirectly prevents other people from accessing it, denounced vacationers.
Faced with this discriminatory situation, they expressed their anger. For them, these practices divide Moroccans and show the non-bearded and non-veiled as being "disrespectful" of religion, reports Achkayen.
On the side of many activists, the tone is different. They hailed the striking discrimination on the Saïda beach. According to them, this offers a space for vacationers who do not wish to mingle with others and only want to enjoy the beach "in respect of sharia".
