Controversy Erupts in Morocco Over Campaign to Ban Men’s Short Shorts in Public

Some Moroccan Internet users are relaying a campaign calling for a ban on men wearing shorts in public, with the slogan "Dress at home as you want, but in public spaces, respect others".
This campaign would be led by the Islamist movement. The Internet users who relayed the post criticize "this bad appearance that is displayed in our neighborhoods, in our markets and in public establishments". The short shorts that resemble the swimming trunks worn mid-thigh by "young men" in the summer are the subject of strong criticism. The post calls on "dignified" men who want to "protect their entourage and the Muslim community" to oppose this dress code and to put into practice the popular saying: "eat what you like and dress according to what pleases people".
The message then questions the men: "How do you feel, dear man, when you wear short shorts and go out in front of people, dressed in this disgusting way? Imagine someone dressed like that passing in front of your sister, your daughter or your wife?" "If you accept that, then you are a cuckold," the authors of the publication suggest. "Dress at home as you want, but in public spaces, you must discipline yourself and respect others," they insist.
The publication recommends that men dress decently in "public spaces", "clinics and medical laboratories, pharmacies and markets"... So, to wear long shorts. The authors evoke the notion of freedom: "freedom is to respect legal orders"; "freedom is morality"; "freedom is not to harm others with any behavior".
