Controversy Erupts in Moroccan City as Nightclub Opens Between Mosques

Residents of the city of Sidi Slimane are angry. They believe that the authorizations for the opening of nightclubs do not respect the standards of social morality. As proof, between two mosques is one of these discotheques, which arouses the indignation of the populations determined to demand accountability from the authorities.
The information is provided by the Arabic-language daily Al Akhbar, regarding this nightclub located between two places of worship in Sidi Slimane: the Anajat mosque, erected in the Cossinap district, and the Imam Boukhari mosque built in the Al Salam district.
According to the daily, only 100 meters separate the entertainment establishment from the two places of worship.
To put an end to this forced coexistence, the residents have seized the local authorities, questioning the criteria for granting permits to open these nightclubs, which some describe as places of debauchery.
To close the nightclubs, the residents call for respect for the law, which states that "without prejudice to acquired rights, it is forbidden to operate a drinking establishment in the vicinity of religious buildings, cemeteries, military, hospital or school establishments, in a habous building and, in general, in the vicinity of any place where respect and decency must be observed".
