Controversial Moroccan Beer Festival Faces Uncertain Future Amid Public Backlash

The first beer festival, scheduled for October 28 in Bouskoura, is it canceled? This is at least what several sources are claiming, announcing a backtracking by the organizers.
To support their information, the same sources reported that the publications on the Facebook account dedicated to the event have been deleted. The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry would have, according to them, given in to the pressure of Internet users who had demanded the banning of the festival.
The organization of the first Moroccan Oktoberfest had indeed provoked strong protests, particularly on social networks, it is recalled. Very early on, a petition against the organization of this event in Morocco was launched. Its authors evoked the Moroccan identity and beliefs which, according to them, are contrary to this initiative. It has gathered 21,000 signatures in less than 48 hours.
However, the first festival had initially generated a lot of enthusiasm according to the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Morocco. Tickets had already been put on sale at 800 dirhams for members and 1,200 dirhams for non-members. The event was to take place under a marquee of more than 300 seats in Bouskoura.
