Controversial Imam Hassan Iquioussen Freed in Morocco After Expulsion from Belgium

Hassan Iquioussen, the Moroccan imam known for his controversial positions, was released by the Moroccan authorities on Friday upon his arrival at the Mohamed V airport in Casablanca. He had been expelled from Belgium where he had taken refuge after fleeing France to avoid an expulsion order.
According to a Moroccan government source cited by EFE, Iquioussen has no ongoing trial in this country and was able to leave the airport freely. However, his radical and controversial positions have provoked strong reactions in France and Belgium.
Lucie Simon, Iquioussen’s lawyer, had denounced a few months ago the French Interior Minister’s willingness to expel him to Morocco, where his life could be "in danger" due to his political positions.
She had stated: "We recall that an expulsion order has not yet been notified to him and that it is the justice system that will ultimately decide on his removal. If an expulsion order is notified to Hassan Iquioussen, we will take legal action. We also alert to the consequences that a possible expulsion to Morocco could have, where the life of my client could be in danger due to his political positions."
