Comoros to Open First African Consulate in Laâyoune, Morocco

A Comoros Consulate General will soon open its doors in Laâyoune. This decision follows talks between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and the envoy of the Comorian President, Bianrifi Tarmidi.
A first in Morocco. The Comoros Islands will soon be the first African country to open a general consulate in Laâyoune. This diplomatic coup comes a week after the royal speech delivered on the 44th anniversary of the Green March. In his address, King Mohammed VI described the Sahara as "Morocco’s gateway" to sub-Saharan Africa.
Other African countries are preparing, it is said, to follow the example of the Comoros Islands, by opening diplomatic representations.
Well before the Comoros, in June 2019, the honorary consulate of Côte d’Ivoire had also been opened in the southern provinces of the Kingdom, in Laâyoune, as part of efforts to further promote diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.
