Comedian Jamel Debbouze Announces Hiatus from Career After Marrakech Festival

The 9th edition of the "Marrakech du Rire" took place from June 12 to 16, 2019; an opportunity for Jamel Debbouze to confide to RTL France his intention to take a break and "spare his mount".

After a brilliant passage in the ochre city, the Franco-Moroccan actor and comedian decides to hang up his boots, at least for a few years. He needs to take a break in order to recharge.

The artist confides: "I am always very surprised to see the halls full and the pleasure I continue to take, it has not changed, it is wonderful. But, for me to be able to continue to enjoy it, I also have to spare my mount. I will stop in December and I know I won’t be back for years, that’s for sure."

The decision does not seem to affect his love for cinema, however, nor his career as an actor and producer. Several film projects are germinating in his mind and he intends to take advantage of them to continue the profession of actor or producer.

"There are very interesting things happening in the film industry, things that really fascinate me, that have been in the works for many months, even years. I’ll never do two things at the same time, actor, director, producer... It’s useless, you’re necessarily bad at one place."

But before going on an extended vacation, the comedian will have to resume the tour of his show, "Maintenant ou Jamel", which is restarting in September 2019 and will continue until the end of the year.
