Colombian Tourists Scammed in Fez: $76,000 Carpet Fraud Sparks Investigation

After American tourists, two Colombian tourists were recently victims of fraud in the city of Fès. They filed a complaint and an investigation has been opened.
The Colombian tourists filed a complaint through the Colombian embassy in Morocco with the competent prosecutor’s office, in which they explain that they paid around 760,000 dirhams for the purchase and shipment of four carpets. An investigation has been opened to shed light on this case.
Faced with the multiplication of cases of fraud in the city of Fès, involving tourist guides, a collective has addressed a petition to the Wali of the region to call for action against the black sheep in their ranks. In this petition, they mention the case denounced by an American tourist in which an individual is involved, owner of several guest houses, but also holder of a tourist guide license which he uses to carry out "suspicious operations".
These practices are damaging the reputation of the city as a tourist destination, denounce the initiators of the petition who disapprove of the fact that the attention is focused on the city of Fès and on the profession of tourist guide in this affair, while the person concerned presented himself to the American tourist as a university professor, expert in craft products, or other. They call on the regional authorities to take firm action against anyone who would try to harm the image of the city.
