Colombia Recognizes Morocco’s Sovereignty Over Western Sahara

During an official visit to Morocco, the Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Marta Lucia Ramirez, announced her country’s decision to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
Colombia has given instructions to the new ambassador of its country in Rabat so that he extends the consular jurisdiction of the Colombian Embassy in Morocco to the entire Moroccan territory, including the Sahara. This is one of the information from the joint communiqué published on Thursday in Rabat, following the talks between Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and the Colombian official, on an official visit to Morocco.
Nasser Bourita did not fail to give the Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia the latest developments regarding the autonomy initiative for the Sahara region, presented by Morocco in 2007. For her part, she welcomed "the serious efforts made by Morocco in the search for a political, pragmatic, realistic and lasting solution to this dispute, within the framework of the political process led under the exclusive auspices of the UN", adds the joint communiqué.
Finally, she stressed "the importance of the Moroccan initiative, with a view to reaching a realistic, lasting and compromise-based political solution, in order to put an end to this issue, which is vital for Morocco, within the framework of its sovereignty and its territorial integrity".
