Cold Case Breakthrough: Homeless Man Confesses to 7-Year-Old Essaouira Murder During Routine Check

The case was revived during a simple identity check of a homeless person in Bouznika. The latter is the alleged perpetrator of a crime committed seven years ago in Essaouira.
As he saw police officers from Bouznika under the Benslimane district on patrol, a homeless person went to hide behind a tree, reports Assabah. The law enforcement officers approached him for a simple identity check. He told them that he did not have a national identity card. He gave his identity and said he was from the Ait Hajj Tahar douar. Put on the spot, the homeless person admitted to being the author of a crime committed seven years ago in Essaouira. Procedural and technical malfunctions had not allowed the crime to be solved. By mistake, the police had entered the name of the accused in the computer system as the victim. Then the body of the latter had been returned to the family.
The facts had occurred in 2012. The suspect, a dairy manager, claims to have discovered that his collaborator was homosexual and then fired him. One morning, he finds his former employee sleeping near the dairy. He invites him to have breakfast. Subsequently, the victim stole 20,000 DH and left the premises. One day, the alleged accused catches the victim in a cafe. He takes him to his dairy where, he would have confessed to having stolen his money and not being able to pay him back. Angry, he broke a glass on the victim’s head. He died on the spot. After committing the crime, he closed his shop, and fled to the bus station where he took a bus to Rabat.
