Coastal Highway Project in Northern Morocco Delayed, Officials Confirm

The project to transform the coastal road connecting Nador to Al Hoceima into a highway is indeed in the works. This is what the regional director of Equipment and Water announced during the recent session of the provincial council of Al Hoceima.
Initially scheduled to start soon, the project has however been shelved by the Ministry of Equipment. According to its representative in Al Hoceima, this decision follows a review of infrastructure priorities. The ministry will now focus its efforts on the construction of a road section between Aït Saïd (Driouch province) and Al Aroui (Nador province).
What about the current coastal road? No revolution in sight. The official assured that it will benefit from maintenance work to improve its condition, without however undergoing a transformation into a highway, at least for the moment.
This announcement is likely to grate on the local population and economic actors. Investors in the lead, many were hoping that this highway would stimulate the development of the region, improve transportation and facilitate access to the Nador West Med port. Many Moroccans residing abroad also complain about this road during the summer.
