Coastal Chaos: Moroccan Summer Exodus Sparks Calls for Tangier-Tanger Med Ferry Solution

The return of Moroccans residing abroad, combined with the summer vacation season, is putting heavy pressure on the coastal road axis connecting Tangier to Ksar Sghir. This situation results in heavy congestion, leading to traffic jams that can last several hours.
The road indeed supports a combined traffic. It serves both the beaches of Ksar Sghir, whose attractiveness is strong among summer vacationers, and is the main access route for the many travelers going to or coming from the port of Tanger Med.
To address this annual problem, voices are being raised for the implementation of an alternative solution. The proposal being put forward is to create a temporary maritime line that would connect the port of Tangier City to that of Tanger Med. The travel time for this ship connection is estimated at 30 minutes.
Such an initiative would, it is said, have the main objective of reducing the inconvenience suffered by users, in particular the loss of time and the costs generated by the traffic jams. It would also aim to decongest the coastal road, a situation made urgent by the high temperatures that characterize the season.
