CNews Faces Potential Sanctions Over Controversial Anti-Muslim Comments

Following the remarks deemed anti-Muslim made by journalist Jean-Claude Dassier on CNews last week, the television channel could soon be sanctioned. A complaint has been filed and the justice system has been seized.
The commentator and former OM executive said on the CNews set: "Muslims, they don’t care about the Republic, they don’t even know what the word means" and where another contributor, Laurent Ozon, praised the merits of "remigration."
Remarks that were not contradicted during the show and have since caused an outcry. Several associations have expressed their intention to take legal action for this "advocacy of hatred and discrimination."
On Wednesday, L’Arcom, the French audiovisual regulator, announced that it had referred the matter to a member of the Council of State who will study the possibility of a sanction against CNews. The independent rapporteur of the Council of State will decide whether or not to initiate proceedings and investigate the case.
This is not the first time this channel has been in the sights of the administrative authority. In 2021, it was fined 200,000 euros for similar remarks by Éric Zemmour. L’Arcom is regularly seized for excesses observed on CNews and C8.
