Civil Guard Busts Moroccan Hashish Smuggling Ring in Cadiz

The Civil Guard has dismantled a hashish trafficking network from Morocco to the province of Cadiz using pateras. The arrested persons are residents of Algeciras and La Linea with a history of drug trafficking.

The authorities in Cadiz continue their fight against Moroccan hashish trafficking. During the operation carried out on Friday by the Civil Guard in the estuaries of Chiclana, the most active point of this illicit activity in the entire province, the agents caught a "patera" in the act of providing fuel to drug traffickers, reports La Voz Digital.

The semi-rigid was spotted about five miles from the Sancti Petri castle. A pleasure boat then approached it with the suspicious intention of passing them bottles. The civil guards, who were observing them from a distance, were able to detect the maneuver and launched a chase. Despite repeated summons from the agents, the suspects accelerated at high speed. A chase that lasted a few minutes before the agents managed to intercept them.

The Civil Guard union (AUGC) demands that this practice be considered a crime and that special measures be taken to limit the proliferation in the bay of these boats that supply fuel to drug traffickers. The five arrested persons, all from Algeciras and La Línea, have a history of drug trafficking. The driver of the vehicle, for his part, was arrested for disobedience and reckless driving.

The AUGC also demands that those who engage in this type of trafficking be arrested and prosecuted and that severe criminal penalties be imposed on them, rather than administrative sanctions for offenses of collecting or transferring dangerous materials.
