Chinese Wind Turbine Giant Aeolon Breaks Ground on $220 Million Factory in Morocco

The Chinese group Aeolon, specialized in the manufacture of wind turbine blades, launched on Tuesday the construction work of its factory in Nador, the first of the group abroad. It will have a production capacity of 600 wind turbine blades per year and should generate more than 3,000 jobs.
The factory will be built on an area of 50 hectares in the Betoya free trade zone and should be operational by January 2025. The Chinese group will invest 220 million euros (about 2.3 billion dirhams) for the establishment of this factory in Nador, its first outside of China, thus contributing to the economic development of the region.
"First major investment next to the new port of Nador West Med, this new facility will be the largest of its kind in the Euro-African area," said Mohcine Jazouli, delegate minister in charge of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, during the official launch ceremony of the construction work, specifying that this project is one of the most important that the National Investment Commission has approved since the entry into force of the new Investment Charter in March 2023.
Aeolon had announced on November 21 last, six months after the creation of its subsidiary Aeolon Renewable Energy Morocco and the opening of an office in Nador, the construction of this factory which should produce each year 600 wind turbine blades intended for the markets of Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The Chinese giant has chosen to settle in Morocco due to its strategic geographical position, as it is "connected to the markets of the European Union, the Middle East and Africa", and its "stable economic environment" which "attracts a large number of foreign investments". The strong commitment of the Moroccan authorities to the development of renewable energies, as well as the quality workforce available on site, also prompted Aeolon to invest in the kingdom, says the Chinese group.
