China’s Gotion High-Tech Breaks Ground on Africa’s First EV Battery Gigafactory in Morocco

The Chinese group Gotion High-Tech has officially launched the work on its electric vehicle battery Gigafactory in Morocco, the first in Africa and the Middle East.
This giant battery factory for electric vehicles will be built in the Atlantic Free Zone of Kénitra. Earthworks have begun on an area of 156 hectares. With a total cost of 65 billion dirhams, the project should be completed by 2026. It is, according to Challenge, the largest industrial project in Morocco after the Renault plant in Tangier. With this project, the kingdom intends to establish itself as a leader in renewable energies and green mobility in Africa and the Middle East.
