Two Children Die from Scorpion Stings in Morocco’s Ouezzane Province Amid Heatwave

Scorpion stings are the cause of the death of two children in the province of Ouezzane, during this summer and heatwave period. No antidote was available at the Provincial Hospital.
Another child has just been added to the sad list of victims of venomous scorpion bites, reports 360.ma.
The child, barely four years old, went to several hospitals, to no avail. From the Abou Kacem Zahraoui Provincial Hospital in Ouezzane to the one in Aïn Drij, he unfortunately passed away in another one, in Rabat.
According to the same source, the child was spending his vacation at his grandfather’s, in the douar of Aïn Bouazza, located in the commune of Lajaara, in the province of Ouezzane, when he was stung by a scorpion.
Another death, linked to the same cause, was also recorded in the same province.
The lack of availability of an antidote could increase the number of victims, notes the daily Al Massae. Indeed, there have been many cases of deaths recorded in the province of Ouezzane, in the last two years, due to scorpion stings, snake bites and other venomous animals. The higher the temperature, the more dangerous these animals become. Thus, infants and children under 9 years old are the most vulnerable.
Unfortunately, the Abou Kacem Zahraoui Provincial Hospital in Ouezzane is still unable to treat the victims. It is urgent that the Ministry of Health takes the measure of the situation, in order to stop the bleeding.
