Chelsea Sacks Manager Thomas Tuchel After Champions League Defeat

Chelsea announced on Wednesday that it has terminated the contract of German coach Thomas Tuchel. The decision comes a day after the Blues’ defeat against Dinamo Zagreb (0-1) in the Champions League.
"The new owners, who have crossed the 100-day mark since taking over the club, believe the time is right to make this transition. On behalf of all the Chelsea FC members, the club wishes to express its gratitude to Thomas and his team for all their efforts," the London club said in a statement.
Thomas Tuchel leaves Chelsea after winning major titles such as the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup. His name will be etched in the annals of the club’s history, the same source said, adding that Chelsea does not wish to make any further comment on the matter before the appointment of a new coach.
Aged 49, the former coach of Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain arrived at the helm of the Blues in January 2021, replacing Frank Lampard. He leaves Stamford Bridge after a disappointing start to the season in the Premier League, the club having suffered two defeats against Leeds and Southampton.
