Charity Alleges Fraud in Morocco’s Medical Aid Program for Poor

The misuse of the Medical Assistance Scheme for the Economically Disadvantaged (RAMED) card by people in difficulty has created a controversy within a charitable association in Benslimane. It denounced the abusive use of a service normally intended for the most destitute.
According to the daily newspaper Assabah, some individuals with a comfortable financial situation have benefited from the medical coverage card. They used it for dialysis sessions at the provincial hospital in the city.
The newspaper adds that the beneficiaries managed to obtain the card using forged documents, and deplores that some people are still deprived of care, due to the problem of the Certificate of Indigence.
The members of the association, composed mainly of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs), deplore the fraudulent use of drug allocations at the Hemodialysis Center by unauthorized persons to the detriment of a still marginalized population.
They are calling for an investigation to identify the people who issued these RAMED cards to owners of real estate and hundreds of hectares of agricultural land, and also demand that they be removed from the list of dialysis session beneficiaries.
