Chaos Erupts as Morocco Opens New Transit Area for Expats Near Ceuta

Morocco has inaugurated a new esplanade for Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) wishing to leave the country via the city of Sebta. But this initiative is marked by disorganization and lack of clear information.
Even though no official announcement has been made about its opening, vehicles have been directed to this new space without prior notice. On site, motorists wait for long hours under the sun, without tents to protect themselves from the heat wave the country is experiencing.
The transfer of cars to this esplanade was done in a disorganized manner, reports the local site El Faro de Ceuta. The security forces in Ceuta have stated that they are not aware of the directives at the Bab Sebta level (Moroccan side). Moreover, in amateur videos that have been published online, we can see vehicles waiting in front of the commercial building complex in Tarajal.
The situation inside the esplanade is no better. MRE or Ceuta residents’ cars are piled up. Frustration and exhaustion are palpable, particularly with the prolonged traffic jams on the road leading to the autonomous city, the same source specifies.
Despite the many complaints expressed on social media and by various associations, no official action has yet been taken to resolve the problem.
