Ceuta Officials Praise Extended Border Closure with Morocco, Citing Preparation Needs

The government of Ceuta and the government delegation have described as "wise" the decision to keep the border with Morocco closed for another fifteen days. A period that will be used to prepare for the reopening under good conditions.
It is a "prudent" measure that allows "to ensure that all measures have been taken for the orderly and gradual reopening of the border," said sources from the government of the autonomous city to EFE.
For the President of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas (PP), "this process must lead to the creation of a commercial customs office [...] and the abolition of the visa exemption for Moroccans from Tetouan."
"There are still outstanding issues that must be studied and validated by the two countries" before the reopening of the border, explained for their part sources from the government delegation in Ceuta, insisting that "prudence" must remain the order of the day.
In a decree by the Minister of the Interior published on Saturday in the Official State Gazette (BOE), Spain has decided to extend the closure of the borders of Ceuta and Melilla with Morocco by 15 days, "subject to modification before this deadline," which implies that a decision could be made before this deadline.
